Dumas’s sequel to The Three Musketeers picks up the action just days after the first novel’s closing events. Introducing the Comte de Moret to the distinguished and swashbuckling cast, the novel consists of the 75 chapters Dumas (1802-1870) completed for serial publication, and which appeared in book form in France only in 1946. Published here with a related novella, The Dove, Dumas’s towering achievement has been freshly translated by Lawrence Ellsworth, who played a key role in popularizing Dungeons & Dragons for TSR Hobbies.
