Keena Roberts - Wild Life: Dispatches from a Childhood of Baboons and Button-Downs — in conversation with Andi Buchanan — at Union Market

Upcoming Event
Tuesday, November 12, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

The daughter of primatologists, Roberts grew up shuttling between Botswana and Philadelphia. In the former she learned to carve bird whistles from palm nuts, cook over a campfire, and get along with the baboon colony her parents studied, but in the latter she felt out of place. As this spirited memoir shows, however, Roberts met the challenges of her split life with courage and an indomitable sense of humor. Her book tells stories of wild animals and unforgiving adolescent hierarchies, uses the two contrasting cultures to illuminate each other, and charts Roberts’s course of self-discovery from her experiences in Africa to Harvard, Johns Hopkins, and work on issues related to foreign affairs and health policy. Roberts will be in conversation with Andie Buchanan, author of The Beginning of Everything.
