Julie Berry - Lovely War—at Cleveland Park Library

Upcoming Event
Thursday, March 7, 2019 - 7:00pm

Just as World War II breaks, Hephaestus, god of fire, catches his wife, Aphrodite, cheating on him with Ares, god of war. In an attempt to save herself, the goddess of love regales them with a tale of battle, heroism, romance and music from the First World War. The story follows the lives of Hazel and James, two young Britons in love; Aubrey, an African American soldier and prodigal jazz musician; and Colette, a Belgian singer with a haunting past. The interwoven narratives of these four people who find each other despite violence flicker and spark with visceral detail. In this historical wartime novel, no edges are softened, no lines are blurred, and yet readers are left with an invincible sense of hope and belief in the overwhelming power of love.
