Julia Fierro - The Gypsy Moth Summer

Upcoming Event
Friday, June 23, 2017 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Fierro, widely published in journals ranging from Glamour to Psychology Today, founded Sackett Street Writers, named the “Best MFA-alternative” by Poets & Writers, and made her fiction debut with Cutting Teeth. Her second novel unfolds in 1992 on Avalon Island. A small homogenous community, Avalon was until recently divided only along entrenched class lines. That changes when Leslie Day Marshall, who grew up there in one of the town’s WASPiest families, moves back from New York City with her black husband and their children. Leslie hadn’t foreseen how her return would spark tension, and no one in her hometown is prepared for how the situation will spin out of control. Fierro will be in conversation with the Book Maven, Bethanne Patrick.
