Jorie Graham - Fast: Poems

Upcoming Event
Sunday, June 11, 2017 - 3:00pm to 4:00pm

Graham’s previous book, From the New World: Poems 1976-2014, showcased this remarkable poet’s growth through eleven previous collections. In doing so, it seemed to summarize a certain phase of Graham’s career and set her on the edge of fresh artistic breakthroughs. In her first volume of new poems in five years, Graham explores technologies barely imaginable until recently, writing about 3D printing, bots, and the increasingly elusive phenomenon known as “reality.” Expanding her signature long-lined, spacious stanzas to poems that look like blocks of prose, and adapting Dickinson’s dash to a code-like arrow, Graham evokes a world of dramatic and even traumatic changes as we move into the Anthropocene where it’s unclear whether we’re “ahead of time or too late,” and where neither nature nor human nature mean what they once did.
