Jonathan Eig - Ali: A Life — in conversation with Kevin Merida

Upcoming Event
Wednesday, October 25, 2017 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Muhammad Ali (1942-2016) was born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr., a “slave name” he abandoned when he converted to Islam. He grew up in segregated Kentucky and started training as a boxer at twelve. By eighteen he was an Olympic gold medalist and four years later, he upset Sonny Liston to win the heavyweight title. The Greatest in the ring, Ali was an inspiring and polarizing figure outside of it, famous for his sharp wit and his refusal to be drafted. Eig’s comprehensive biography is the first to tell the full story of Ali as athlete, resistor, and cultural icon. Eig, author of books including Opening Day and Get Capone, conducted over 500 interviews with people close to Ali, and he had access to FBI and Justice Department files and newly discovered audiotapes from the 1960s.

Eig will be in conversation with Kevin Merida, ESPN senior vice president and editor-in-chief at the ESPN sports blog, The Undefeated.
