John Wray - Godsend — in conversation with Invisibilia's Alix Spiegel

Upcoming Event
Saturday, October 20, 2018 - 3:30pm to 4:30pm

From the unforgettable evocation of schizophrenia in Lowboy to the eerie exploration of the mysteries of time in The Lost Time Chronicles and the Wild West in Canaan’s Tongue, Wray has brilliantly plumbed other worlds and other psyches. His new novel, inspired by the life of “the American Taliban,” John Walker Lindh, tells the story of eighteen-year-old Aden Sawyer, whose quest for meaning leads her into one of the world’s most dangerous places. Aden, the daughter of a professor of Islamic studies, grows up in the U.S., but dreams of studying at a madrasa. She runs away to Peshawar, Pakistan, where she transforms herself into Suleyman. While dedicated to her studies, Aden is overwhelmed by the violence she encounters, and faces decisions she’d never imagined having to make. Wray will be in conversation with Alix Spiegel, host and producer of NPR’s Invisibilia.
