Meri has grown up in a peaceful Chicago, free of lies, crime, and injustice. Or so she thinks. While trying to finish one of her late mother’s paintings, a stranger hands her a piece of paper with one word written on it: “Verify.” Meri has never heard this word before because society has banned it. In seeking its meaning, she attracts the attention of both the government and a secret resistance group dedicated to preserving the world’s knowledge and history. Meri’s life is upended as she joins the rebels and falls in love, all with the threat of punishment, or even death, lingering over her every move. Age 13 and up.
