JoAnn Allen Boyce and Debbie Levy - This Promise of Change: One Girls Story in the Fight for School Equality — in Children and Teens

Upcoming Event
Thursday, January 10, 2019 - 7:00pm

Jo Ann Allen Boyce grew up in a home on a hill with the other black residents in Clinton, Tennessee, in the middle of the twentieth century. She was happy with her community and with her life, but yearned for a better education. Two years after the Brown v. Board of Education decision, cities and towns everywhere must integrate their schools. Jo Ann, along with twelve other black students, enrolls in the all-white high school. Timely and poignantly honest, Jo Ann Allen Boyce and Debbie Levy recount an infamous era in recent American history using accessible free verse. Ages 10 to 14.
