Jill Wine-Banks - The Watergate Girl: My Fight for Truth and Justice Against a Criminal President

Upcoming Event
Friday, February 28, 2020 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Wine-Banks, an MSNBC legal analyst, completed law school in 1968 and started her career as one of the first female attorneys in the DOJ’s organized crime section. This was soon followed by a post as an assistant Watergate special prosecutor under Leon Jaworski, which earned Wine-Banks the nickname “the mini-skirted lawyer.” As she recalls in this vivid and timely memoir, such sexism was par for the course in 1970s Washington—as was harassment that included having her phone tapped and her house burgled. But Wine-Banks persevered, showing her professional skill by cross-examining Nixon’s secretary, Rose Mary Woods, about the famous gap in the Watergate tapes, and by becoming the first woman to serve as general counsel of the U.S. Army (1977-1980) and, later, chief operating officer of the American Bar Association.
