Jessica Tracy - Take Pride: Why the Deadliest Sin Holds the Secret to Human Success

Upcoming Event
Tuesday, September 20, 2016 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Now an associate professor of psychology at the University of British Columbia, Tracy directs the Emotion & Self Lab, which focuses on pride, shame, and guilt, a powerful constellation of feelings with direct bearing on an individual’s sense of self. While pride, in particular, has often been condemned as sinful, Tracy shows that pride doesn’t have to mean arrogance; rather, by fostering a positive view of self, it nurtures creativity and altruism. Winner of the James McKeen Cattell Dissertation Award as well as the International Society for Self and Identity Early Career Award, Tracy has published some eighty articles, reviews, and book chapters in influential psychology publications, as well as co-editing The Self-Conscious Emotions and The Psychology of Social Status.
