Co-authors Weiss, a Brooklyn-based public health policy consultant, and Franklin, who lives in Washington, together founded the children’s clothing company babyPolitico; they are also both mothers and know well the joys and perils of parenting. Their book, in the darkly humorous vein of Edward Gorey’s classic The Gashlycrumb Tinies, is an album of mothers driven to distraction, from Amy, who “overdid the Pinot at the Parent Potluck” to Zoe, who at last “chose to retire.” These twenty-six scenes of domestic bedlam are accompanied by the witty graphics of award-winning comics artist Kenneth Kit Lamug.
