Jeffery Paine - Enlightenment Town: Finding Spiritual Awakening in a Most Improbable Place

Upcoming Event
Sunday, June 24, 2018 - 3:00pm to 4:00pm

Crestone, Colorado, started as a small mining and ranching town after the Civil War. By 2010 it boasted a population of about 127, but was steadily becoming an internationally recognized hub of spirituality. It’s now home to more than two dozen different faiths, including Christian and Tibetan and Zen Buddhist organizations. In this lively report on his pilgrimage to Crestone, Paine, who has written about Eastern culture for Western audiences in Father India, Re-Enchantment, and Adventures with the Buddha, explores why so many religions have found this town, introduces followers of the different sects, talks to Crestone natives, and probes this marvelous diversity of faith for the bedrock values they all have in common.
