Jarrett Krosoczka - Hey, Kiddo: How I Lost My Mother, Found My Father, and Dealt with Family Addiction — West End Library

Upcoming Event
Thursday, November 8, 2018 - 7:00pm

When he was in preschool, Jarrett Krosoczka’s teacher asked the class to draw pictures of themselves with their mothers and fathers. But Jarrett’s family was so much more complicated than that. In his graphic memoir, Hey, Kiddo, he turns his artistic view inwards and tells the story of his own life as a child and teenager. With a mother who was a heroin addict and a father he didn’t know, life was different from the picture-perfect household his teacher imagined. His grandparents raised him, two very opinionated but loving people. In this profound and starkly honest book, longlisted for the National Book Awards in young adult literature, Krosoczka tells his story, and how art and expressing himself through his drawings became his lifeline. Ages 12 and up.

This free, public event is presented in partnership with the District of Columbia Public Library.
