Janette Sadik-Khan - Streetfight: Handbook for an Urban Revolution

Monday, March 28, 2016 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Sadik-Khan, New York’s transportation commissioner from 2007 to 2013, reviews her achievements—and battles—under Mayor Bloomberg. Writing with Seth Solomonow, former chief media strategist for the New York City Transportation Department and now with Bloomberg Associates, Sadik-Khan shows how urban space can be re-allocated in ways that drastically improve city life. Rather than reconstructing neighborhoods, Sadik-Khan has “read” them differently, for instance by adding bike paths and making crosswalks more visible, changes that have led to safer streets, increased foot traffic, and thriving shop-front businesses. Her approach has been adopted in cities around the world, from Austin to Mexico City.
