James Wood - Upstate

Upcoming Event
Friday, June 8, 2018 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

In his second foray into fiction, Wood, The New Yorker’s book critic since 2007, follows up his 2003 The Book against God with a compelling family story that doubles as a novel of ideas. The family in question is the Querrys, natives of northern England. Split by a bitter divorce years ago, they’ve been divided by the Atlantic since Vanessa left her father and sister to teach philosophy in New York. When she becomes seriously depressed, her boyfriend summons her relatives, and over the course of six days near Saratoga Springs the three begin to confront and heal their old wounds. Insightful and beautifully written, this work of fiction by one of today’s most influential and widely admired critics is a literary event.
