James Verini - They Will Have to Die Now: Mosul and the Fall of the Caliphate — in conversation with Ben Kesling

Upcoming Event
Monday, September 23, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Between mid-October 2016 and mid-July 2017, forces led by the Iraqi government battled ISIS for control of Mosul. Verini, an award-winning journalist and National Geographic staff writer, spent over eight months on the front lines during what the Pentagon described as “the most significant urban combat since World War II.” His first-hand account is a compelling and graphic glimpse of the reality of the conflict, an illuminating profile of those engaged in it, and a detailed history of Iraq through the lens of military conflicts dating from the Assyrians who founded Mosul to the American forces that invaded Iraq in 2003.  Verini will be in conversation with Ben Kesling, national security reporter for The Wall Street Journal.
