Join Jacqueline Woodson, National Book Award-winner (NBA), to launch DC Public Library’s Summer Challenge in an event co-sponsored by the DC Public Library and Politics & Prose. Woodson, the 2018-2019 National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, is the author of numerous award-winning books, including Brown Girl Dreaming (2014 winner of the NBA), a mesmerizing memoir in verse about growing up as an African American girl in the 1960s and 1970s. Her story is both accessible and emotionally charged, each line offering a glimpse into a child’s soul as she searches for her place in the world. Jacqueline Woodson will be in conversation with Dr. Dana Williams, Chair of the department of English and a professor of African American literature, Howard University.
This event is free and open to the public; however, to attend, an entrance ticket is required.
To join the signing line, attendees must reserve a ticket plus make a book purchase. Copies of Brown Girl Dreaming are available for pre-purchase with a ticket. Additional Jacqueline Woodson titles will be on sale at the event.
