Jacob Tobia - Sissy: A Coming-of-Gender Story — in conversation with Jonathan Capehart — at Politics and Prose at The Wharf

Upcoming Event
Wednesday, March 6, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Brought up as a boy, but too sensitive and creative to conform to norms of aggressive masculinity, Tobia was instead shamed as a “sissy.” In this brave, honest, and very funny memoir, Tobia, a leading voice on behalf of the nonbinary and genderqueer communities, speaks out about the challenges of living between genders. Charting their experience from growing up in a Methodist household to graduating from Duke, Tobia, creator and co-host of the NBC News series Queer 2.0 and a member of the Biden Foundation’s Advisory Council for Advancing LGBTQ Equality, martials their trademark humor and sass to overturn assumptions about gender, celebrate gender diversity, and serve as an inspiring model of the kind of outspoken and empathetic voice the country needs. Tobia will be in conversation with Jonathan Capehart, writer for The Washington Post's PostPartisan blog and contributor for MSNBC.
