J. Courtney Sullivan - Saints for All Occasions

Upcoming Event
Sunday, May 21, 2017 - 3:00pm to 4:00pm

Sullivan’s first three novels, Commencement, Maine, and The Engagements, deftly mapped the terrains of women’s friendship, family, and marriage. Her latest work of fiction focuses on the lives of two very different sisters. Long estranged when the book opens, Nora and Theresa were twenty-one and seventeen when they left Ireland for America. Nora, responsible and serious, was engaged to a good man. Theresa, outgoing and adventurous, got pregnant. Fifty years later, Nora has four grown children and Theresa is a cloistered nun. But a family emergency forces the women to re-establish contact and break their mutual silence about the past.

Sullivan will be in conversation with Tayla Burney, WAMU events manager.
