J. Albert Mann - What Every Girl Should Know: Margaret Sanger’s Journey—in Children and Teens

Upcoming Event
Wednesday, March 13, 2019 - 7:00pm

In 1889, 10-year-old Margaret lives in poverty with her numerous siblings, an ill mother, and a free-thinking father. She does not yet know that she will one day become a pioneer of women’s rights and found Planned Parenthood. As she grows up, she becomes increasingly desperate to break free of society’s traditional gender roles. Imagined dialogue paired with factually-grounded scenes creates a new, relatable understanding of the young woman who would go on to change women’s reproductive rights forever. Ages 12 and up. Mann will be in conversation with Mary Quattlebaum, children's author and Washington Post reviewer.
