Ian Brennan - Silenced by Sound: The Music Meritocracy Myth — with a performance by The Good Ones, and in conversation with John Waters

Upcoming Event
Saturday, September 28, 2019 - 6:00pm to 7:00pm

Brennan is a Grammy-award winning record producer, but his multi-track career also includes writing, lecturing on violence prevention, and promoting voices from underheard regions and persecuted populations. He follows How Music Dies (or Lives), his penetrating examination of questions of authenticity in an age of technological glibness, with this discussion of the challenges of access and distribution facing art, music, and media today. Appealing to the engaged listener, Brennan gives a trenchant critique of the music industry’s inequities, but also shows that popular culture offers fresh ground as a forum for social change. Brennan will be in conversation with filmmaker, artist, and author John Waters; the talk will also feature a performance by Rwandan band The Good Ones, on their first US tour.
