A gathering with Helen DeWitt (Some Trick; Lightning Rods; The Last Samurai) — in The Den

Upcoming Event
Sunday, January 6, 2019 - 6:00pm to 7:00pm

It's not for nothing that Helen DeWitt's The Last Samurai was recently named the best book of the 21st century so far by New York Magazine. Ever since its release at the dawn of the millennium, she has been among the most passionately beloved creators of fiction alive, increasingly so following that debut novel's re-release in 2016 and her subsequent story collection Some Trick in 2018. In those works and in 2011's Lightning Rods, DeWitt fashions her narratives like no other, mixing foreign (often ancient) languages and mathematical proofs into her sharp, emotionally enveloping satires, all in such a way that readers feel hypnotically, pleasurably pulled toward compelling new horizons for the written word. Join DeWitt in Politics and Prose's café The Den for an informal gathering for all lovers of literature, complete with "An Extremely Abridged Library of Helen DeWitt" for attendees to peruse.
