Garth Greenwell - Cleanness — in conversation with Nate Brown

Upcoming Event
Saturday, January 18, 2020 - 6:00pm to 7:00pm

Greenwell’s stunning debut, What Belongs to You, won the British Book Award for Debut of the Year and was named a Best Book of 2016 by more than fifty publications in nine countries. His eagerly awaited follow-up returns to Sofia, Bulgaria, exploring desire, discovery, loss, and love through the reflections of an American teacher. Preparing to leave the city that’s become home, the man revisits an array of vulnerable encounters with a queer student who confesses his feelings, a stranger whose seduction turns sadistic, and others. Greenwell’s lyrical and haunting prose powerfully evokes both the beauty and violence of masculine passion. The author will be joined in conversation with Nate Brown, Baltimore-based writer and editor who teaches at Johns Hopkins and Georgetown universities, and serves as the managing editor of the Austin-based literary magazine American Short Fiction.
