G. Willow Wilson - The Bird King

Upcoming Event
Saturday, March 16, 2019 - 6:00pm to 7:00pm

Wilson, the storyteller behind the reincarnation of Ms. Marvel, won the 2013 World Fantasy Award for Best Novel with Alif the Unseen. Her second novel is an equally colorful swashbuckler set on the Iberian Peninsula during the Spanish Inquisition. The story focuses on the beautiful and brave Fatima, the favorite concubine of Sultan Abu Abdullah. Fatima, however, is in love with Hassan, the palace mapmaker, who has the additional talent of being able to bend the shape of reality by drawing maps of places he’s never seen. But when envoys from the newly formed Spanish monarchy arrive to negotiate a transfer of power, they see Hassan as a sorcerer who threatens Christianity. With the help of djinns and other magical figures, he and Fatima flee for their lives.
