Fred Bowen - Off the Bench - At Conn Ave

Upcoming Event
Thursday, March 23, 2023 - 10:30am

It’s March Madness—the perfect time to read Fred Bowen’s newest Sports Story book, Off the Bench.

Chris has always loved sports, and he idolizes his older brother, the star scorer on the high school basketball team, who is being recruited by Division 3 colleges. Chris is a good scorer for his junior high team but his coach won’t start him. Soon Chris becomes obsessed with earning a place in the starting lineup. He does everything he can think of—including being an invaluable player. But nothing seems to get Coach’s attention. How will he ever be a big scoring star?

Join Fred as her shares how he gets his ideas, shares his original notebooks for Off the Bench, how a first draft comes together and all of the many, many changes that make for a new book.

Fred Bowen is the author of more than twenty children’s books about sports. For twenty years he wrote the KidsPost sports column in The Washington Post. Fred lives in Maryland with his family.

Ages 7-11
