Frank Van Riper - Recovered Memory: New York and Paris 1960-1980

Upcoming Event
Saturday, November 10, 2018 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

A fine art and documentary photographer in the tradition of Henri Cartier-Bresson and Gianni Berengo Gardin, D.C.-based Van Riper is a master at evoking place in words and images. He won the Art Director’s Club of Washington silver award for photography for Down East Maine/A World Apart, and with Judith Goodman, his wife and professional partner, produced the acclaimed Serenissima: Venice in Winter. In his latest book, he draws on his rich archives of late-20th-century photos of New York and Paris to recreate the timeless black-and-white landscape of two of the world’s most looked-at cities. Now writing the online photography column TalkingPhotogaphy.com, Van Riper covered photography for The Washington Post for nearly twenty years.
