Donald T. Critchlow - Republican Character: From Nixon to Reagan

Upcoming Event
Saturday, January 20, 2018 - 3:30pm to 4:30pm

Focusing on the lives of Richard Nixon, Nelson Rockefeller, Barry Goldwater, and Ronald Reagan, Critchlow argues that character, temperament, and leadership ability have done more to shape the development of today’s Republican Party than ideology has. Critchlow, professor of history and director of the Center for Political Thought and Leadership at Arizona State University, draws on new archival material to chart the complex relationships between these key figures, revealing how they borrowed from as well as competed with each other, and how their ambitions, pragmatism, and clashes left lasting legacies.
