Deirdra McAfee and BettyJoyce Nash - Lock and Load: Armed Fiction — at Politics and Prose at The Wharf

Upcoming Event
Tuesday, February 6, 2018 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Guns are a fact of life in American culture today, and they’re as prevalent in fiction as they are in real life. With the aim of illustrating American attitudes as well as American violence, McAfee and Nash, both fiction writers, have gathered a wide-ranging selection of short stories centering on guns. Written by noted figures such as Pinckney Benedict, Annie Proulx, and John Edgar Wideman, as well as many fine emerging writers, the pieces reflect and probe Americans’ obsession with guns, question conventional gender stereotypes concerning firearms, and show how guns affect people in a variety of everyday situations.
