David Rowell - Wherever the Sound Takes You: Heroics and Heartbreak in Music Making — with accompaniment by Bob Funck

Upcoming Event
Sunday, March 31, 2019 - 5:00pm to 6:00pm

Rowell is best known as deputy editor of the Washington Post Magazine and author of The Train of Small Mercies, but he’s also a devoted amateur drummer, and his new book chronicles his passionate quest to understand what lies behind the tremendous emotions music evokes in those who make it. Traveling across the country, Rowell visited a wide range of musicians—from Peter Frampton to death metal bands to a reclusive Christian drummer—asking each about their relationship to their instrument and their music. The result is a combination love letter to the art, lively tour of clubs, concert halls, and street corners, and a philosophical meditation on our most profound feelings. Rowell will be accompanied by Bob Funck, a singer-songwriter based in Durham, N.C., and cofounder of NC Songsmiths, a collective of North Carolina songwriters.
