David Michaels - The Triumph of Doubt: Dark Money and the Science of Deception — in conversation with Nell Henderson

Upcoming Event
Sunday, February 9, 2020 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

In his eye-opening study of the role of science-for-hire in American life, Michaels traces decades of corporate manipulation of research, showing that today’s rampant denial and misuse of science isn’t new, but began with Big Tobacco in the 1950s. Professor of environmental and occupational health at George Washington University, Michaels draws on his extensive experience as assistant secretary of labor for OSHA from 2009 to 2017 to document the bogus studies, congressional testimonies, and policy documents corporations have used to avoid regulation. He also analyzes many high-profile cases involving cars, food, sports, and the very air we breathe, documenting how manufacturers have misrepresented data to market dangerous products as safe.

Michaels will be in conversation with Nell Henderson, Wall Street Journal economics editor.
