David Keplinger - Another City: Poems

Upcoming Event
Saturday, April 7, 2018 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

Perpetually en route, leaving or returning in memory, the poems in Keplinger’s restless fifth collection explore both real cities and states of mind. Like their presiding spirit, Houdini, “stuck in his box” yet mentally transcending it to follow his mother as she slips away in a final illness, Keplinger “believe[s] that grief can travel distances.” Death, too, makes travelers of us and his father’s ghost “told me of the cities he had visited.” Deftly using both lyrical punch and narrative momentum, Keplinger, winner of the T.S. Eliot Award and director of American University’s MFA in creative writing program, charts an atlas of the emotional world.
