David Grann - Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI

From 1921 to 1926 at least two dozen people were killed in and near Oklahoma. Most victims belonged to the Osage Indian Nation, which had recently gained affluence after the discovery of oil on their tribal lands. Grann, who followed in the footsteps of intrepid Amazon explorers in his compelling The Lost City of Z and traced several mysterious tales in The Devil and Sherlock Holmes, here uses his reportage and story-telling skills to present new evidence in the case. He also recounts how the investigation helped make J. Edgar Hoover’s career, when the obscure Bureau of Investigation, called in to help, found itself unequal to the task and Hoover demanded a more professional and scientific national police force.
