David Cole - Rules for Resistance: Advice from Around the Globe for the Age of Trump

Upcoming Event
Sunday, July 9, 2017 - 3:00pm to 4:00pm

Cole’s primer for resisting Trump is drawn from the experience and collective wisdom of people from all over the world who have lived under autocratic leaders and can tell us what to expect. With essays by noted writers, dissidents, and intellectuals including Masha Gessen, Ai Weiwei, George Soros, Ariel Dorfman, and Nadya Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot, this anthology offers valuable insight on issues such as the prosecution of political opponents, the use of libel laws to attack critics, the gutting of non-partisan institutions, and the selective application of the law. Cole, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union, and the author of Enemy Aliens and Engines of Liberty, pays special attention to the crucial roles of non-governmental institutions and journalists in preserving democracy.

Cole will be in conversation with Diane Wachtell, executive editor of the New Press.
