David Cole - Engines of Liberty: The Power of Citizen Activists to Make Constitutional Law

Sunday, April 10, 2016 - 6:00pm to 7:00pm

Cole is an experienced civil liberties lawyer and the award winning author of books including No Equal Justice and Enemy Aliens. Currently the Hon. George J. Mitchell Professor in Law and Public Policy at Georgetown University, he’s also the legal affairs correspondent for The Nation, and a regular contributor to The New York Review of Books. In his latest study of the nexus of the constitution and society he draws on the recent campaigns for marriage equality, for civil liberties during the war on terror, and against gun control to show that citizen activists are the crucial agents of constitutional change, working to affect public opinion and get cases before the High Court.
