Darrell M. West - Divided Politics, Divided Nation: Hyperconflict in the Trump Era

Upcoming Event
Saturday, March 30, 2019 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

West grew up in a fundamentalist Christian family in rural Ohio, a background that may seem surprising for someone who has long been part of the liberal East Coast establishment. In this analysis of the deep divisions tearing the country apart, West, founding director of the Center for Technology Innovation at Brookings and editor-in-chief of TechTank and former Director of Brown University’s Taubman Center for Public Policy, draws on his personal background as well as his professional experience to explain the views of both sides in the angry stand-off between progressives and conservatives. Warning that the divisiveness has become a tribalism that threatens to subvert democracy, he issues a call to action to people to bridge their differences and work together to make a new way forward.
