Craig Fehrman - Author in Chief: The Untold Story of Our Presidents and the Books They Wrote — in conversation with Kate Andersen Brower

Upcoming Event
Wednesday, February 12, 2020 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

In this fresh and illuminating take on American presidents, Fehrman looks at the nation’s chief executives as writers. Starting with Jefferson’s Notes on the State of Virginia, the first presidential book to influence a campaign, Fehrman traces a long tradition that includes John Adams’s score-settling Autobiography, Lincoln’s Political Debates Between Hon. Abraham Lincoln and Hon. Stephen A. Douglas—strategically timed for the 1860 election—and works by Teddy Roosevelt, Reagan, and Trump’s Art of the Deal. Applying the storytelling skills of a journalist with the scholarship of a historian, Fehrman draws on newly uncovered documents, including previously unpublished letters from Andrew Jackson, John F. Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan, to interpret the lives and achievements of these authorial heads of state.
