Charlotte Jones Voiklis and Lena Roy - Becoming Madeleine: A Biography of the Author of a Wrinkle in Time by Her Granddaughters — in conversation with Petra Mayer — in the Children & Teens Dept.

Upcoming Event
Monday, February 12, 2018 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Madeleine L’Engle’s journey to become a writer is chronicled by her granddaughters. With sources including her journals, letters, and old report cards, Voilkis and Roy paint a thorough, moving, and accessible portrait of a creative, empathetic, ambitious, and wise woman.   Starting with her birth in 1918 to the publication of A Wrinkle in Time in 1962, they chart L’Engle’s life through a confusing and often lonely childhood, years in the New York theater scene, her struggle to balance career and motherhood in the constraining 1950s, and frustrating rejections and rewrites.  Madeleine L’Engle’s lifelong determination to be an author is sure to inspire other young writers.(Ages 9-12)

The co-authors will be in conversation with Petra Mayer, NPR.
