CANCELED: Christian Kracht - The Dead

Upcoming Event
Thursday, July 19, 2018 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

This event has been canceled.

Kracht is a Swiss novelist whose work has electrified Europe, earned comparisons with Thomas Mann and Joseph Conrad, and been translated into more than two dozen languages. He won the 2012 Wilhelm Raabe Literature Prize for Imperium, which the judges’ citation noted "balances on the border between humor and horror.” Kracht’s follow-up is an equally deft blend of history, film history, and Gothic elements. Set in the early 1930s, it follows Swiss film director Emil Nageli as he travels to Japan, ostensibly to make a film celebrating Hitler. In fact, Nageli intends to make an allegorical spectacle that will alert the world to the danger Hitler poses. Arriving in Japan, however, he finds his hosts have other plans for him.
