@ Busboys and Poets Brookland: Greg Jobin-Leeds - When We Fight, We Win!: Twenty-First-Century Social Movements and the Activists That Are Transforming Our World

Tuesday, January 12, 2016 - 6:30pm to 7:30pm

For anyone who thinks one person can’t make a difference, this vibrant collection of the words, deeds, and pictures of some of today’s most prominent social activists proclaims otherwise. Working with AgitArte, a collective of artists and organizers including Deymirie Hernández and José Jorge Díaz, Jobin-Leeds, co-founder of Access Strategies Fund, and a leader in many other progressive organizations, has assembled an instructive and inspiring progress report from movements fighting for a living wage, a lighter carbon footprint, and responsible government. The presentation will include a multimedia introduction, performance, and discussion of how social movements intersect, key components of transformative organizing, why art and storytelling are crucial, and ways for aspiring activists to get involved.

Greg Jobin-Leeds be joined by co-authors AgitArte’s Deymirie Hernández and José Jorge Díaz, Executive Director of the National LGBTQ Taskforce Rea Carey, & Rob Kampia of the Marijuana Policy Project.
