Bren Smith - Eat Like a Fish: Jumpstarting the Blue Economy — in conversation with Miriam Goldstein — at Politics and Prose at The Wharf

Upcoming Event
Monday, June 24, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Smith, a commercial fisherman since he was fourteen, watched as overfishing, climate change, and ocean acidification made the industry as he’s known it impossible to sustain. In response he invented restorative 3D ocean farming, a process that harvests a mixture of shellfish and ocean greens. As he’s proving in Connecticut with his Thimble Island Ocean Farm—one of Time magazine’s Best Inventions of 2017 and winner of the Buckminster Fuller Challenge for ecological design—this new practice is not only sustainable, it improves ocean water quality, creates new jobs, processes seaweed for use in a wide range of industries, and provides foods rich in protein, vitamin C, calcium, omega-3s, and flavor. Smith will be in conversation with Miriam Goldstein, managing director for Energy and Environment Policy and the director for Ocean Policy at American Progress.
