Bernhard Schlink - The Woman on the Stairs

Upcoming Event
Wednesday, March 22, 2017 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Schlink’s tighly plotted and emotionally taut psychological thriller starts with a young lawyer who takes a seemingly minor case: an artist wants to reclaim a recent portrait when the subject’s husband, who commissioned the work, defaces it. The attorney soon falls into his clients’ web of obsession and passion, and as the narrative moves from Frankfurt to Australia, the novel explores the limits of love and deceit. A former judge, Schlink teaches public law and legal philosophy at Humboldt University in Berlin and at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law; he is also the author of the international bestseller The Reader.
