Upcoming Event
Tuesday, May 1, 2018 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Best known for his play Death and the Maiden, which has been produced in more than one hundred countries, Dorfman has long been one of the world’s leading voices in the struggle for human rights. His first novel in seventeen years returns to a seemingly forgotten chapter of colonial history with a boy’s fourteenth birthday in 1981. A mysterious shadow appears in a snapshot from the occasion and as the boy investigates, he discovers connections between his family and the ghastly nineteenthcentury practice of capturing indigenous people and displaying them in “human zoos” throughout Europe. Based on actual events, Dorfman’s powerful fiction lets us hear some of history’s silenced voices.
