The Emmy Award-winning food and wine expert on Netflix’s Queer Eye, Porowski brings irresistible enthusiasm to this collection of recipes, photos, and stories, which opens, fittingly enough, with a section on party foods. Followed by chapters on vegetable side dishes, soups and stews, pastas, healthy weeknight fare, meat, and desserts, the volume reflects Porowski’s Polish heritage in dishes like pickled herring tartines with apple and radishes, bigos, and caramel Easter squares; showcases his upbringing in multi-ethnic Montreal with Middle Eastern and South Asian-influenced specialties such as fesenjan and chickpea masala; and samples his junior high years in West Virginia with five-onion soup with crispy shallots and a blackened swordfish with polenta hush puppies and roasted tomatoes. Simple and unfussy, often calling for fewer than five ingredients, these recipes are perfect for laid-back entertaining, and they make even beginners look like seasoned pros.
