Anne Kim - Abandoned: America's Lost Youth and the Crisis of Disconnection — at The Wharf

Upcoming Event
Monday, February 17, 2020 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Some 4.5 million young people in this country between the ages of sixteen and twenty-four are living without the grounding of a family, school, or work. In the first study of this underreported crisis, Kim, a lawyer, public policy expert, and contributing editor at Washington Monthly, combines analysis with powerful, often wrenching stories of young people with few resources struggling to find their way. More prevalent in rural areas than urban ones, disconnection affects kids aging out of foster care and young adults tangled in the justice system. But with the growing recognition of emerging adulthood as a crucial developmental period, Kim foresees the advent of much needed programs to foster self-sufficiency in this overlooked population.
