Andrew Ervin - Burning Down George Orwell's House

Saturday, May 23, 2015 - 3:30pm to 4:30pm

Tired of his advertising job and facing the end of his marriage, Ray Welter, the likeable protagonist of Ervin’s debut novel, needs a time out. He leaves Chicago for Jura, an island of the Inner Hebrides where Orwell, his hero, once lived. It’s no paradise, but Ray drinks a lot of excellent Scotch, muses on Nineteen Eighty-Four, and gets to know the locals. Ervin, a widely published literary critic and author of Extraordinary Renditions, a collection of novellas, has assembled a cast of lively eccentrics, including a teenage artist, her repressive father, and a werewolf.
