Andrea Petersen - On Edge: A Journey Through Anxiety

Upcoming Event
Sunday, May 21, 2017 - 5:00pm to 6:00pm

Some 18% of American adults suffer from anxiety disorder; without counting the many who experience anxiety at less than a clinical level, this is still more people than suffer from all other mood disorders combined. Peterson, a longtime healthcare reporter for The Wall Street Journal, was diagnosed with anxiety disorder in college. She’d suffered the symptoms since early childhood, and her detailed account of this mental illness is both an intimate look at how the disorder works and a report of what recent research has revealed about it. Peterson uses her own family to trace anxiety’s genetic path and, noting that women are twice as likely as men to get a diagnosis of anxiety disorder, looks at the socio-cultural associations between gender and mental illness.
