Amy and Dave Freeman - A Year in the Wilderness: Bearing Witness in the Boundary Waters — at Politics and Prose at The Wharf

Upcoming Event
Tuesday, June 19, 2018 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

National Geographic’s 2014 Adventurers of the Year, the Freemans have traveled over thirty thousand miles by canoe, kayak, and dogsled through some of the world's wildest places, from the Amazon to the Arctic. When they heard about a proposal for a sulfide-ore copper mining project within the watershed of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, one of the most visited wilderness areas in the country, they embarked on a year-long journey through the area to draw attention to its vulnerability. Their beautiful book of photographs and commentary celebrates this stunning 1,090,000-acre site within Minnesota’s Superior National Forest, serves as an urgent act of witness activism, and continues the Freemans’ contribution to environmental protection by “enabling people to experience the wilderness, fostering a love and appreciation for the natural world.”
