Amitai Etzioni - Avoiding War with China: Two Nations, One World

Upcoming Event
Sunday, July 16, 2017 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

As China increases its regional and global assertiveness, many believe the U.S. and China are on a collision course. In his incisive analysis of U.S.-Sino relations, Etzioni, University Professor in the Institute for Communitarian Policy Studies at George Washington University, argues that war between the two powers is not inevitable. Etzioni closely examines China’s strengths, details the country’s goals, and explores various proposals for defusing the rising tensions, from integrating China into the prevailing liberal, international order to containing or balancing China through alliances with various countries in the region. Ultimately, Etzioni shows there are ways the U.S. and China can maximize cooperation to minimize military conflict.
