Allison Yarrow - 90s Bitch: Media, Culture, and the Failed Promise of Gender Equality — in conversation with Garance Franke-Ruta — at Politics and Prose at The Wharf

Upcoming Event
Thursday, June 28, 2018 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

As #MeToo goes head-to-head with a culture of anti-feminist backlash, Yarrow revisits the 1990s to show how we got here. Often perceived as a breakout period of “girl power,” the decade of Anita Hill, Marcia Clarke, Courtney Love, Roseanne Barr, and Hillary Clinton was notably hostile to women who defied social expectations. In this sharp and thorough analysis, Yarrow, an award-winning journalist, 2017 TED fellow, and producer of the Vice documentary “Misconception,” examines the historical, political, and cultural forces that caused these bold and brave women not to be treated like the trailblazers and truth-tellers they were, but to be shamed and vilified by the media.

Yarrow will be in conversation with Garance Franke-Ruta, Washington editor of Yahoo News and editor in chief of Yahoo Politics.
